Welcome

Fermont, an exceptional site to discover

the Maginot Line

A journey of more than 2 hours to discover a large artillery fort that has remained authentic

with its equipment, its underground organizations and its armament.

In front of the entrance, the Museum presents, over more than 1000m², a remarkable collection

of the main equipment of the Maginot Line put in situation and the biggest

collection in France of  French and German fortress and field guns , used in 1939/1940.

THE VISIT FROM THE FORT

After visiting the ammunition store, a small electric train will take you, 30m underground, to the heart of the combat blocks where you will visit a fully equipped artillery casemate, the only organ of this type that can be visited today.

An external circuit will then allow you to discover the other blocks of the work and in particular the 75mm turret of block 1. Returning to the work, you will successively visit the infirmary, the barracks and the electrical factory in which reconstituted scenes will help you rediscover the period atmosphere.

Fermont is also the evocation of the battles of the Maginot Line and its resistance since, attacked from the front and the rear, in particular on June 21, 1940, the Fort remained undefeated. The Memorial erected in front of the entrance to the Fortress Troops "delivered to the enemy without having been defeated" is there to remind us that the Maginot Line still held to the Armistice.

The Museum of the Maginot Line and fortress troops

In addition to the main pieces of artillery, you will have the possibility of discovering the unique presentation in France, of five turrets with eclipse (including four of artillery). The Museum is also the evocation of the fortification of the countryside through its most representative materials. The fortress troops were not forgotten with the presentation of the crews of works but also that of the infantry and artillery troops of intervals and their respective materials.

Finally, it is an evocation of the Phoney War and the fighting at the Forward Position of Longwy, with careful reconstructions presenting models in situation, with all their equipment, vehicles and artillery pieces. The Fermont Museum is the history of the Maginot Line preserved for the benefit of future generations.
